I've got a lot of fun stuff to post here at some point. Reason I'm posting now is that I apparently at some point got a copy of Terraria in my inventory that's still available for re-gifting or whatever. Anybody want Terraria? Anybody think they might be interested and want to know more?

I've beaten all but the last two bosses at this point, so I know a fair amount about the game if you need explanations or more information.

Sorta like Minecraft, but in a sidescroller?  If no one else is interested, I'll take it off your hands.  I can't do Minecraft (because I have a job I'd like to keep and sleep to be had), so this might be a nice little fix.

Awesome! Between Guild Wars 2, Diablo 3, and the ever-looming Torchlight 2 potential,  I hope you find time to enjoy :)!

This so far has been the single most useful page of the Terraria wiki I've read. It serves as a good guide of how to progress through the game, answering the "What should I be doing next?" question quite often.

So someone made a montage of all of TB and Jessie's deaths from their ongoing Terraria let's play.  It has some pretty funny moments in it without having to watch the hours of game play.

Terraria Server

So, after this was jokingly brought up during evening chat on vent one ...evening, I've been thinking it might actually be a lot of fun to have a persistent GameKnight's Terraria world wherein to roll new characters, grow stronger, beat the game, build shit, explore shit, kill shit, etc. Given that many of us have the game, I decided I'd look into it. I've managed to get TerrariaServer.exe running and with some help (thanks Tim!) I managed to figure out the port-forwarding. At this point, I'm able to run a server and potentially leave it running in the background.

So here's my question: is there any interest in dinking around with this?

For myself, I don't have any interest in dinking around with it seriously.  Like I wouldn't want to dedicate a whole night of game night to it.  However I think it, or a Minecraft server, would be an excellent thing to have running for the down time.  The time before game night starts, when it's over and we still want to chat but maybe not start a new game of something, or those times when no one else is around but you still want to play something the group might benefit from, or when you want to play something with one other person and you really don't own or play a lot in common.

Who knows, maybe once its established and we figure out how to make it a fun social thing dedicating more of a night of gamenight to it might not be so bad?

My only concern with Terraira over say Minecraft is that Terraria has a progression that allows players to be further ahead than others, which could make multiplayer frustrating for those playing casually (or those playing super serious because no one else is caught up to them).  Then there's the matter of bringing your already supped up single player characters and rushing right into hard mode before anyone who has yet to beat more than the first boss can handle it.  I'm not saying these are reasons not to do it, but we might want to establish some ground rules before the game becomes not fun for those who play less often.

Of course then there's the issue that Minecraft is first person, which means Kitty can't play it, which Terraria doesn't have.

Anyway thank you for hooking this up.  We should probably not post your IP address to the forums directly but if you want me to setup a password protected page for it let me know.

Personally I don't have much interest either though I know there are fair amount of people who do enjoy the game here so perhaps they'd like this.

Minecraft does have a third person mode but I remember last time I tried it it was kinda wonky with targeting. Then again, that was ages ago and probably is fine now.

Yeah we tried it.  She could walk around and explore fine, but getting the kind of precision needed for building turned out to be too difficult and she gave up on it as a result.

Oh man.  I do not have words for how stupidly excited and thrilled this guy's Terraria world makes me.  Holy cow.

10 months, ~530 hours.  It's..............it's everything I want my world to be.  Because I am slightly insane.

He put up a download link for his world, so you can load it up at your leisure and explore.  I'm half tempted to just to be able to get the materials I might need for my world.  And better examine how he did the circular base.

But I am a little worried I'd get lost in there and like, I have boards to study for.  And work to go to.  And food to eat.

Map below for those who don't want to read the entire thread, though it is interesting to a degree.
