The multiplayer mod for this glorious mayhem engine has been relesed on steam today.  I may need to look into this.

Didn't get very far into the main game but this multiplayer version sounds like it could be a ton of fun.

It's always been my intention to come back to it because it's fun and sillies, but yes I also didn't get very far. When I hear people talk about Skyrim like they got overwhelmed by everything they could be doing that they never finished the main story but instead just ran around until they got bored, that's what JC2 did for me.

Depending on how the multplayer works though, yeah I could see flying around a HUGE TROPICAL ISLAND with the express purpose of BLOWING UP EVERYTHING THAT MOVES with ANYTHING YOU CAN FIND could be awesome.

Ditto on both accounts.

Seems a few of us own it. Since the mod is free, possible game night funs? Or really, I'd be down for trying it any time.

EDIT: I have heard from multiple sources that setting up a private server is totally doable. I guess they didn't release server code while in beta but now that it's released you can do whatever you want with it. There's even some server scripting so maybe we'd even find some fun modes added by other people eventually.

Ahh, dear old Panau . . . and that WONDEROUS hookshot! Honestly, if I found out that they made the hookshot first and then were like "we need to come up with a game to build around this thing" I'd be surprised, but I'd also totally believe it. Especially if the hookshot was originally called "Sir Gul Label".

In any event, if/when we get anything of this kind going I'm totally in! Blowing shit up for the sake of nothing but chaotically blowing shit up, with friends, is on my list of "a few of my favorite things". I'll take a look into server-setup when i have spare time and/or am sitting at home doing nothing...

...so probably not for a while. We'll see :).

For the record, I just got a server for this up and running.  I could host it and make it private for gameknights if we wanted.

EDIT: IMPORTANT THING TO NOTE this mod DOES NOT have AI or NPCs running around this world, so it'd be up to us to make our own fun/be each other's enemies.  Keep that in mind.

Wait I - I'm confused. If there's no AI then . . . do enemies just stand still and do nothing? Or are there no enemies at all? I suppose there is still exploring and blowing shit up to do, but without being shot at at all it'd be kinda . . .empty-ish?

Kinda empty describes it perfectly.  There's no soldiers, no villiagers.  Hell I had to turn on a mod to activate random vehicles.  The black market is off unless you turn on a strange facimalie of it, and as it stands I don't know how you earn money for it.

The idea behind the mod is that the server supports an absurd number of players.  Like, 5,000 or something on one Panau.  So, the other players are your random foes, your easrtwhile competetors.

Trust me, if we do this part of the fun/challenge will be making/finding our own fun.

That said, an example of "making our own fun" can be I can make spawning helicopters and rocket launchers free and we can all teleport to the same area of the map and blow each other up over and over.  We could limit ourselves to a sector and play giant games of hide and kill.  We could try to see how many jet fighters we can chain together with hookshots. The server software also comes with scripts for demolision derbies and races built in.

But yeah this isn't a Co-Op mode.  We're not going to destory Panau or complete campaign missions with it.

Also, there are like hundreds of servers up.  We could easily join one with a hundred players on it and go nuts.
