I finished my first map pack! They're designed to do away with some of the annoying randomness that leaves one player alone to be crushed or someone being surrounded by nearly all uncolonizables type situations. The pack contains three maps right now.

  • Circlet and Broach: A random 2v2 map of two stars with 'elegant' planet arrangement.
  • Nuclear Division 3v3 map where players are on one half of the single star system and the CPUs are on the other side. Players must be in the top 3 slots.
  • Crystalline Abstraction: 4v4 map with players and CPUs grouped by sets of twos and placed in alternating groups around the single star. Players must be in the top 4 slots.
  • Pentatacular: 5v5 map where each player is paired against a CPU in their own star with 5 stars in total. Players must be in the top 5 slots.

You can download the map pack HERE.
To install the maps drop them in the C:\Users\USER NAME\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\GalaxyForge directory. This is a hidden file path so if you are going navigate there by double clicking folders you'll have to unhide hidden folders. Enjoy!

We played the 5v5 map in this pack tonight and I have to say, totally impressive first effort! I recommend giving it a download if you want a new Sins map to try out :). Keep up the good work!

Map pack updated to 1.0.1 to try and address the resource issues that a couple stars in the 5v5 map had. Please update!

I totally understand if you don't want to, but I think it'd be neat if you came up with a name for your map packs, and named the maps, and came up with quick little stories for them.

Like:

DOWNLOAD THE JUSTICE AND TRUTH MAPPACK I

Includes Pentawars a 5v5 across 5 stars where players must win their solar system before they can save others.

Or something like that :). I dunno I always ate that up with the Starcraft maps.

Map pack has been updated again! I added a new map and renamed the old ones in an effort to start giving them more flavor. I'll be updating in game descriptions next time around. Anyway, go ahead and delete the maps with the old names when up update!

Good news everyone!  Stardock has announced a new Sins of a Solar Empire Expansion!  It is called Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion!  It will be a stand-alone expansion that uses Impulse:Reactor for it's multiplayer match making instead of ICO.

The plot, as it were, is that diplomacy did not bring peace, but instead splintered the factions into subgroups. Here's a quick bullet list from the forum post I linked above about it:

  • New Factions: Players decide whether to become Loyalists or Rebels, which unlocks a unique new tech tree granting them new technologies and ship variants.
  • New Titan-class ships:  Massive warships for each race that dwarf capital ships, these deadly new monsters are capable of wiping out entire enemy fleets single-handedly.
  • New Capital Ships:  A new capital ship class arrives, giving players new strategic options.
  • New Corvette-class ships:  Small, highly maneuverable light ships that are adept at a variety of tasks.
  • Loyalist and Rebel versions of some of the existing Sins’ frigates and cruisers, each with their own unique strengths and weaknesses.
  • Updated lighting and particle effects for enhanced visuals.
  • New Victory Conditions to allow for more variety, differing strategies and shorter game sessions.
  • Additional capital ship ability levels, for greater strategic choice.
  • Impulse::Reactor support for chat, friends, achievements and more.

Now for the bad news:  Impulse was recently purchased by GameStop.  So those of you who have a seething "I refuse to shop there because they're the Wal*Mart of gaming" or something stand, then I guess you'll not be playing this expansion.  I for one don't care so yeah, um, See you guys in Rebellion!

Sad to hear they were bought by GameStop, but I'll still pick up Rebellion!

I'll buy it. The only thing I have against Gamestop is their used games policy.

Today I got a confirmation email from Stardock thanking me for ordering Sins: Rebellion and telling me I can download it through Steam. I don't remember ordering Rebellion, but hey, Rebellion!!! Yay!
