So, there are two games that I've played not only for a long time - but on and off continuously for several years now. Starcraft I, and Tetris Attack.

If any of you have ever played Bejeweled, I would strongly recommend checking out Tetris Attack. It's WAY more active and intense, rather than the turn-based bejeweled. The key difference between Tetris Attack and most of these kinds of panel-sliding puzzle games is that it allows you to continue swapping tiles and "doing stuff" even while the previous matches you've made are being processed. The result is that you can set up chains "on the fly" once your reflexes and reading get good enough.

I've got a youtube clip of one of my high-score runs (different than the vs. mode) in playing.

EDIT: Thanks for the link-fix.

I'll be completely honest.  When you first mentioned Tetris Attack to me I was like "lol wut? isn't that super old?  Why play that?"

Then I watched the video.  This is bejeweled for people with gosu fingers.  This is like the masters version for color-matching game masters.

I am not good enough at that kinda thing to play this game, but watching someone who knows what their doing play it makes it kinda mesmerizing (the bad ass music you chose helps there too).

*grins* Thanks :).

And yes, this is *definitely* not the kind of game for everyone. There are two games that I "keep coming back to" over and over again. I might take year-long breaks from them but eventually I'll start a phase and play them all ovre again. Starcraft I, and Tetris Attack.

Once upon a time I was trying for a world-record in the two-minute time-trial. And no, I never came close :P, but I did once break 47,000 IIRC...

I've since switched to doing this version of the time-trial: get 100k as fast as you can. It's much more challenging since it requires consistent excellence rather than just one great 2 minute burst. The most bizzare part is that taking a nice 3month+ break actually makes you BETTER at these kinds of games because it's really like playing an instrument -  you start seeing patterns instinctively that you didn't before since you're less "set in your ways". Many musicians often say that they are playign a song the best before they've mastered it; I think there's really something to that.

Anyway, I still play this from time to time - - if you come over sometime I'll be sure to play a round for you ;). But yeah, bejeweled for Gosu-fingers is a great way to put it.

Yeah the whole "getting better after a 3 month break" thing?  That's totally me and Starcraft 1, to be completely honest.  Totally happened more than once that I thought to try something new or different after a break and it just overall improved my game as a result.

So - on a whim, I tried getting zbattle.net working now that I'm back in DC and with full(er) control of my own modem/router setup. Zbattle.net, for those of you who don't know (so - probably everyone but Tim), is a program that tries to facilitate multiplayer online play for the Zsnes Super Nintendo emulator. Previously I sunk more than 2 hours into trying to make it work and failed... fifteen minutes of tinkering here in DC and I'm playing multiplayer Tetris Attack.

The controls were configured in a way I wasn't used to, the intermittent lag was pretty thick - though to zbattle's credit, it did clear up toward the middle). Despite everything - I won 4 time trial matches and 8 regular versus matches; undefeated.

Hooray for new ways to find new victims partners to play old games with!

Jebus... I will never play that against you. You're too damned good even when you're out of practice.
