Thought I'd go ahead and start a topic for non hardware E3 excitement.  Here are some of my heavy hitters.

  • inFamous Second Son has my interest.  I was lukewarm on inFamous 1, but inFamous 2 has me HOOKED and I can't wait to bash up fictional Seattle with fire powers and learn what new guy's deal is.
  • Cannot wait for TRANSISTOR.
  • Destiny game play has me geeked.  Much as I may hesitate to admit it, I've played every Halo game, and co-op campaign has been my favorite part.  If Bungie can bring sick large scale co-op FPSing in their brand with Diablo-style RPG elements and bring it to the PC, I might have to get it.  Console... I'll hesitate... but still consider.
  • The only bummer about not getting a XBONE would be possibly missing out on Below, which looks like it might be interesting.
  • Watch_Dogs, as always, looks like it could be very neat if done right.  And is amazingly gorgeous.
  • About freaking time we stopped calling it "versus13" and just call it Final Fantasy 15.  God it's taken them long enough.
  • I can't decide if I'm excited for Kingdom Hearts 3 or not.  On the one hand... I kind am.  On the other hand, god I am NOT playing through all the portable side-story games I've missed because fuck that.

I'll see if I can't draw up some links to videos or screens or something tomorrow to go with all commentary. We still have Nintendo's conference tomorrow too so we'll see if anything slick comes out of that.

Some interesting stuff from Nintendo. Some impressions...

  • X was the big surprise for me. Open world, multiplayer, sci-fi game with transforming mechs? That checks off most things I find to be awesome in games. Will want to see combat before getting too excited but they've certainly got my attention.
  • Wind Waker HD looks pretty!
  • Glad to see a new Smash Bros coming. Not something I'd go and buy the Wii U specifically for but it's something I'd get if I already had one.
  • Had no idea that there was serious development on a 3DS version of Smash. Always heard rumors and people really wanting a portable Smash but nothing on real work for one. Kinda cool to see that. Again, not something I'd go and buy a 3DS for but would get it if already had one.
  • Bayonetta 2 continues to look cool.

I came in a little late to showing so that's all that really caught my eye. Fairly safe showing for Nintendo, nothing spectacular really. I still think they should've added at the end "Oh yeah, you can play used game on Wii U as well." If anything though, this kinda solidifies that a Wii U purchase is a middle of next year thing at best.

New The Walking Dead episode for season one. Interesting, not sure how it's gonna connect to your normal season one stuff. Am happy to see more though! Let's see if Telltale can keep up. No spoilers for season one stuff for those who haven't played it.

Seconding the want for Transistor.  Loved Bastion, can't wait to play another game by them.

Transistor was a ton of fun at PAX East, but I think it'll be a multi-platform game. I believe I played it on the 360 at PAX.

Well, if my options are PC or new console platform, I know which one I'm doing.  Plus I didn't have that many problems with Bastion on the PC once I got the weapons I liked.

From the Transistor FAQ:

What platforms is Transistor coming to and what is the release date?
We can confirm that Transistor is coming to the PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam and this web site. We will subsequently release native Linux and Mac versions of the game. We expect it to be available sometime early next year though we don’t have a more-specific date at this time.

Why choose the PlayStation 4 over other gaming consoles?
We’re very excited about the PlayStation 4′s prospects as a next-generation game console, and in turn, the team at Sony was very excited about having Transistor on the platform. Being able to self-publish on console will be a new experience for us and something we’re very interested in, and Sony has been very supportive by providing the development kits we needed as well as opportunities to show our game to the public at various events such as E3.

Will Transistor ever come to other platforms?
All our focus is on the successful launch of Transistor on the PlayStation 4 and PC. We will work to bring the game to Linux and Mac afterwards. Beyond that, we don’t have any specific plans but have not ruled anything out. As with Bastion, the quality of Transistor is our primary concern, and that means having to stay focused on supporting a small number of platforms where we think the game can have the biggest initial impact.

Your first game launched on only one platform. Why launch on two this time?
Bastion debuted on Xbox LIVE Arcade and came to Steam three weeks later, so the two versions launched very close to each other. Since then, our team has grown to some extent so now we feel confident we have the bandwidth to support a simultaneous launch on two platforms. Of all the versions of Bastion we shipped, we have the biggest audience on Steam, so it was very important to us to be there day one this time around.

To speak to the Nintendo thing, I thought Super Mario 3D World looked kinda cool, liked the homage to Mario 2 in each character having their own skills.  Overall though the Wii U's big hitters for me are certainly Bayonetta 2 and Sonic Lost World.  If I ended up with a Wii U I'd get the new Smash but otherwise, meh.  Is is super tempting since they added Mega Man though.  The game only known as "X" at this point also looked like it could be cool, but we didn't see any gameplay.  If it plays at all, I mean AT ALL, like PSO, sign me up.  If it's just another single player JRPG, like the dev's previous Xenoblade, I'll probably pass.

Okay, Bayonetta 2 looks awesome. But I'm stuck on their hair! Why is Bayonetta's hair short, and why is Jeanne's loose? Bayonetta and Jeanne's hair is supposed to be bound up tight and feed into their outfits because it is their outfits! And their outfits disappear with their specials because the hair is the conduit for their special attacks/summons!

That being said, I am so sad Bayonetta 2 is Wii U only because I don't know if I'll get to play it. I won't be buying a Wii U, so I don't know if I'll get the chance and I want to. But not enough to buy a Wii U.
