Just in case you didn't now, the Intel Extreme Masters League of Legends matches for Gamescom are going on RIGHT NOW and will through the week.  Championship will be at 13:00 GMT+2 on August 21st.  On the way there you can catch the action on Riot's IEM Page.

Also!  Don't forget that this weekend there will be League of Legends: Dominion Live Streams on their Gamescom Page.  First ones are 9:00pm to 12:00AM GMT+2 on August 19th.  I know I'm going to do my best to make time to catch SOME League of Legends: Dominion streams and if I can catch the tournament at random I'd like to do that too.

ADMIN EDIT TO ATTACH RIOT'S LIVE STREAM FOR ALL GAMESCOM EVENTS

Guess I'm glad I'm not working from home today cause I'd be tempted to just watch these all day.

Also own3d.tv needs a mobile app so I can watch these on my phone. You know, so I can totaly not secretly watch these at work without it getting noticed that my bandwidth usage spiked up on a certain streaming channel.

<.<

Seriously though, a mobile app or making the video player mobile friendly would be awesome if they'd do it.

Agreed. While I know Android phones can do Flash, from what I've seen it still runs so bad that you wouldn't want to watch an LoL stream on your Android, tablet or phone.

Oh right, and League of Legends: Songs of the Summoned Volume Two is out.

NO REALLY.  OH MY GOD SOMEONE MADE A NOXIAN RESPONSE TO D-TOWN... AND IT IS ACTUALLY BETTER!

Someone's actually posted cam footage of a round of League of Legends: Dominion from Gamescom, if you don't want to wait until the live streams to see it.

According to this post there are plans for more champions to get reduced IP pricing much like what they've done to Morg, Cho, Annie, and some of the others lately. I'm still kinda ticked that all new champs seem to be 6300 IP but I think it'd be a fair trade off if more champs started getting IP reduction as newer champs came out. I'd still prefer some newer champs to get lower starting IP but I could probably live with this.

According to the IEM Gamescome Schedule:

9:50     3rd Place Qualifier Match: Millenium vs. FnaticMSI
13:00    Championship Match: Counter Logic Gaming vs. Team SoloMid
all times GMT+2)

That would, by my calculations, put the European finals at 3:50AM Eastern and the Championship match at 7:00 AM Eastern tomorrow.  That's quite late to stay up and then quite early to wake up to catch both matches so I don't know which one I'll watch, if either.  Either way, Grace and might get up for the championship, and if we do I'll indicate it on IM.

<semi-twitter related rant>

Adam is probably the only one to get this but dear gawd I want to bitch smack some of the League of Legends people I follow on Twitter some days. The amount of bitching about the upcoming support changes ("nerfs") is ungodly right now. I'd post an opinion about it there but I'd probably start some massive flame war or something.

You know it's not that I am going to disagree with them. The changes look pretty crazy and will change play style (I hesitate to call it a straight up nerf. Sounds like they're nerfing sustain but buffing sudden burst heals). But for fuck's sake people, THE PATCH ISN'T OUT YET. YOU HAVE NOT PLAYED IT. I am more then willing to agree with the QQ's after the patch is released and it's been tried and shown that yes it does indeed suck. Quite frankly I've always been annoyed at people who flip that fuck out before a patch on any game is released about how it's going to fuck shit up. I'm happy to talk about the changes and understand when you are concerned about a patch and want to have constructive criticism about it but don't cry "whoa the end is nigh, the game is over" when you have yet to try it.

And btw, no, I'm not bitching about anyone here. Pretty much all of you are completely sane about when an upcoming change is happening and are far more understanding to chat about a change.

I'd like to add to the above rant.

There are two things that are really starting to bug me about gamers in general, and the LoL community's reaction to is expressing one of them.

Once upon a time, gamers were social recluses, unaccepted.  The number of gamers in a given environment was so low that all we could play was single player epics that were complex and deep enough to fill the hours we weren't spending with people who shared our passion we'd yet to meet.

Then the internet happened. The internet both united social reclusive gamers so they need no longer play alone, while also introducing new generations, old and young, to games and we branched out and gaming became socially acceptable.

And now we're bitching about it!!

Now we're standing around filling our game shops and message boards with rants and complaints about "Casuals" ruining our "hardcore" games.

The thing being stated by the Twitter-verse's League of Legends fans is that these new support changes are "catering to the casuals."  Now I'll be honest, there's A LOT about the new support changes I don't understand, but I'm with what Mark posted above - we haven't played it, so don't bitch about it yet.

Secondly, "CASUAL?"  Let's look at this the patch will:

  • Overall lower the effectiveness of nearly every heal in the game
  • Overall increase the cooldown of nearly every heal in the game
  • Overall increase the reasons why a support character would want to engage in combat.

So ignoring the last bullet point, it is making it HARDER for a support to keep their team alive.  HOW THE FUCK IS THAT SUPPORTING THE CASUALS?!?!

Further more,   in terms of the patch being in response to the casuals, I'd like to point out that at GamesCom this weekend, the majority of matches contained:

  • 0-1 tanks
  • 0 bruisers
  • 1-2 AP Carry
  • 1-2 AD Carry
  • 1 misc Jungler 100% of the time
  • 1 support 100% of the time, if not two.

Not only is this true but Nidalee was banned nearly EVERY GAME.  Nidalee.  A support.  Was BANNED.  ALL.  THE. TIME. I think that speaks quite clearly that the PROFESSIONAL LoL scene finds support champions to be probably more valuable than they should be in the greater scheme of team composition, probably because it's too easy to turn a team fight around with healing, which Riot Designers have said time and time again they don't want.

So yeah.  This patch caters to the casuals I guess.  Wut.
