It's probably nostalgia. It's probably nostalgia that's prompting me to be even interested in this game at all.  It's probably nostalgia that caused me to get really pumped up with the familiar-compositions started playing.  It's probably nostalgia that causes me to think that I'd want to play this after all the years of changes to the online RPG scene.

It's probably nostalgia, but after this trailer, I'm really curious to learn more about this game.  I have a feeling that, much like with PSO's other sequels, my willingness to play this is going to hinge directly on if I am going to need to pay a monthly fee to play it online.  If P2P, then I probably will skip it since it clearly still uses a 4-party limit, probably instanced, system.  If it's like US DC PSO was and you buy the box and are good to go, or even just F2P, I can totally see me picking this up.

I mean Look at how damn mobile that combat is!!!  That ranger looks like she's playing circle strafe to win!  AND JUMPING!

Still love that music style and costume design too.

Still... it's probably nostalgia.

I've seen tha trailor and am interested myself. It looks like from it they fix stuff that is now outdated about PSO but that's just taking a look at the trailor. I'm keeping my eye on it. PSO was fun and I still love the universe they make (need more sci-fi action-rpgs plz) and if it's not P2P then might be worth picking up.

Confirmed to be Free to play.  Planed release for PC this fall says Joystiq.

The price is right for me, that's for sure, the time probably isn't.  I'm hoping by then I'll be too deep into Guild Wars 2 or End of Nations to want another online game.

At least it is also the right price to jump into it at a later date or extremely casually. Free to play is awesome.

Max from YouTube (you know the fighting games dude) snuck into the PSO2 closed beta last month and posted some videos.  I've attached this one because I think it serves as good an idea of how things work as any of the other ones.   Honestly, now that I'm looking at it in action, I see little here that Tera doesn't do better (aside from being just the kind of stylized sci-fi setting I love, guns > bows).  That said, Tera is a $40 game with a subscription, and PSO2, if it comes to the USA, is free-to-play, so probably still could be a fun thing to mess around with.

Actually I want to attach the boss fight too.  It's actually pretty cool.  Also to be fair, the one thing this game might do hella better than Tera is the utter lack of the "Holy Trinity Class System" because tbh, I'm not happy with how that works in Tera.  I feel like Tera would be more fun if it didn't have structured tanks and healers and we could complete dungeons with 5 of whatever and be responsible for keeping ourselves alive ala PSO1.

So, I know that PSO was - for a while at least - a thing for the group. Today I happened across some footage of PSO2 and I've gotta say I really like what I'm seeing. It might turn out to be like TERA or it might end up being a bit more 'quick to the action', I can't tell. Regardless:

It's a free to play MMO that's slated for a US release sometime this year. It's been out in Japan for a year already and just a few vids of battle have definitely left me interested to try it out when it drops. Figured I'd post the topic just so others could look into it if they're curious.

I'm still waiting for the official US release.  I hear if you try to play the Japanese version from out of Japan now they ban you. The US version keeps getting more and more delayed too.  It's always been my impression, since it'll be F2P, to try it when it comes out, but what I've heard so far leads me to think it might not light my world on fire like the first PSO did.  I really do think no one in the game industry understands how much the magic of Gamecube PSO was offline 4-player multiplayer.

We'll see though.  I still loved Dreamcast PSO which lacked the offline multiplayer.

It's amazing what that game did to my brain......to this day, I can pick up a GC controller and probably within 5 min of tooling around in Forest I'd be back to my rapid-fire Shifta-Deband-Rafoie-Rafoie-RAFOIE menu spellcasting as if I had never left.  It would be awesome if we could get something like that again.

Apparently PSO2 is no longer IP blocked.
