So - just a quick FYI about XSplit. TO work around the watermark issue, if you broadcast with the free version they will not include it. SO, ya'know, just do absolutely nothing to advertise your stream for some semi-privacy. Then you open up the XSplit Recordings folder and you can upload the recorded file as if you'd used it in record mode without a watermark.

It's a trick I've made use of quite a bit.

So, I was a little less intereseted in some of the immersiveness features that you showed off early on in the video. THough I can definitely see it as adding up to a wonderful package if they continue in that seamless a fashion from area to area once the games' modules are more complete.

The combat though. . .  MAN did that look sweet :). It really reminded me of my Freespace 2 experience to watch that and in a very good way. Though admittedly also in the frustrating "and now to kill this last ship that is eternally evading me" way at one point. If Star citizen were out right now (as in out , out ) It'd be very high on my list of games that we should be able to get some Game Knighters together and play as a group.

Even between just Haldon12, machvergil, myself, and Renairen I know we'd have enough people to make simulation-space-combat a thing for hunting down squads of AI ships or trying to achieve strategic objectives.

Thanks for sharing, I'll try that next time!

Yeah I really wish they had my fighter(s) in the bay so I could show you getting into them and looking around them and stuff.  I think being able to walk into your ship before launching out of your hangar bay will really help impressiveness once the modules come together.

Oh yeah - IMO Star Citizen right now is a hard sell for the price tag.  Paying over $50 for just a few single play modules with some matchmaking and access to one ship is not a lot.  I'm still invested on the promise of a finished game, and who knows I could be wrong.

That said, should anyone decide they want to pick the game up, the Arena Commander module does now support co-op (supposedly, Haven't tried it) so we could fly against those drones together.

Polygon has an article talking about the persistent world module, including an video of a planetary landing and walking around a small chunk of a city.  It sounds like they want to have the persistent world module reach us alpha & beta people sometime in late 2015.  So it's a thing, it's happening, but Elite:Dangerous is still coming out before then by a long shot.

Anyway I found the article interesting.  Still too far off/pie in the sky to really make a verdict about it, but I look forward to it coming.

Sweet Jesus they are going to let us buy a destroyer.

(click for full size)

A used, battle damaged destroyer that will need to be refit.  But still, a Destroyer.  Good god that sounds like an even better career project than owning that luxury ship.  It sounds like the real idea is for a Guild (they call them "Organizations" or "Orgs") to buy one of these and trick it out.  They say EVEN BIGGER ships will come later.

Hey so this game isn't out yet.  But hey they've done this nifty damage model thing!

EDIT: To be fair, this is a better representation of their current progress.

So, some of you may recall me saying on vent that "Star Citizen is absurdly transparent about the current state of development."

In case you didn't believe me, they released, today, a video, of a developer squashing a bug.  I mean, he shows us the bug, shows us the function causing the problem in Visual Studio, and then trying to squash it.

I can't believe this even exists.  As a programmer I find this really cool.  As a customer though I wonder why I need to see this?

Gotta agree on this. I mean, when I find and squash an interesting bug it's fun to relate the issue to a co-worker. To anyone else though it's not gonna really makes much sense. It also doesn't make much sense to waste video editor time bothering with this. I mean, it's interesting but not that interesting.

Of course I'm just sitting here seeing the message "You have mixed tabs and spaces. Fix this?" and wanting to smack the person who used tabs in their code. That's behavior you need to fix right away!

Big news update on the FPS module, which they are now calling "Star Marine."

It sounds like they've made big strides with this module and are looking to bring it to us, much like Arena Commander, sometime soonish (though no actual date was given).  There's talk about how the game will work for both gravity and zero-g, motion capture, and other developments.

They also added an arcade game based on one of their ships, the Vanguard, for you to play.  This is free to play in browser.

Here's some footage of a 2v2 pvp match over the weekend.  The recording actually stays above 30fps most of the time so its a better reflection of the current state of play than my recording awhile ago is.

Note how much faster the game is than Elite, not just in movement but also how much more quickly ships are destroyed.  This is something I always have to get used to go when I bounce between the two games.
