Want GW2!!!

Also, I find it funny that all our threads about other MMOs turn into GW2 discussions at some point.

In order to steer this back off topic, where the fuck is GW2 so even if this shit does happen again, who gives a fuck? Roll a new character cause there are no silly sides and no subscriptions to worry about wasting time and money on the wrong server.

Again, I want to say that overall SWTOR isn't a bad game.  I just feel that Bioware's effort to "revolutionize" by bringing in their much touted single player story telling does not advance us into the "next generation of MMOs."  Yes it means it has a far more engaging story than any MMO before it, but their methods for implementing this makes it feel behind the times in overall multiplayer design.    I'm still sitting around waiting for single boss monsters to pop.  I still have to be grouped with someone or else I can lose credit on something.  I still have right click on twice as many world doodads when they want me to collect something and I'm joined by a person.  It's still a bad idea for me to try and help my lower level friend out with a higher level character due to how little they will get to do and instead will spend watching me be awesome and doing stuff for them.  There aren't even little "public events" that random people can help each other with ad hoc like in RIFT or WAR, just individualistic questing again and again.

If all goes according to plan not a single one of those issues will exist in GW2. That's a "next generation MMO," not importing Mass Effect quality cut-scenes.  Especially when you consider "having cut-scenes during major story events"  was a feature the first Guild Wars had all along.  Sure they were not nearly as well done as SWTORs or well implemented from a multiplayer standpoint, but they were there - this is hardly a new idea in this space.

I just want to make it official that I have unsubscribed.  All things considered I don't hate this game nearly enough to say "And I'm never coming back" just not without some sort of planning and organization that actually will get follow through.  I'm not playing it nearly enough to warrant the monthly right now, so rather than keep up on this I'm going to stop paying them their fee and keep playing Guild Wars and poke at some of the random F2P shit I've been putting off.

If this follows the RIFT curve though sometime like 4 months from now Tim and Glenn and I will all resubscribe and make a more honest attempt to play together and will probably get more out of it.

For those of you at all curious, Star Wars the Online Republic is going to be free this weekend, from Thursday March 15th through Monday March 19th.  You can find the details here.

My subscription has lapsed but if more than one person is interesting in taking this on I might be willing to reup for the weekend.

In case anyone is still interested in the game, The Old Republic went Free-to-Play recently.

Be warned though; it is a microtransaction hell. From the way the folks at Stuff Inc described it there are microtransactions for everything from adding more than two action bars to your UI, to unlocking the ability to buy certain items from vendors with secondary currencies you already earned, to access to dungeons, to running more than a handful of spaceship missions in a week.

The world quests do seem to be fully in tact and playable, though, so you could finish leveling a character to the cap and see their whole story without having to pay. Personally, I'm not going to touch it.

I've been aware that it went F2P.  My interest in the game is still so low I didn't bother to post about it.
