Took this screencap of the three of us in Dark Souls 2 in the Dranglec Castle!

What's that?  You can't see one of us?  Look Closer.

Heads up to Nate:  Mark and I have now beaten the Mirror Knight of Dranglec Castle, went on and beat the Demon of Song in the Shrine of Amana as well. We just set foot in the Undead Crypt last night.  I'm sure either of us would be willing to help you with any of these.

Okay so going over the wiki resources it sounds like after Aldia's keep we're entering into a very solo-focused end game before approaching the Throne of Want.  Here's what we have left to do:

  • In order to access the Throne of Want all we need is the King's Ring, which we have.  With it we can attack the Throne Defenders, but they are not the last boss.
  • In order to fight the Last Boss we first need to kill the Giant Lord in the Memory of Jeigh to earn the "Giant's Kingship."  This will cause the last boss to appear after you fight the Throne Defenders.
  • However in order to access the Memories of Ancients we need the Ashen Mist Heart which we get by either speaking to or killing the Ancient Dragon in Dragon Aerie.
  • That will get us the original ending.  HOWEVER if we want to access the NEW ending added with Patch 1.10, we also need to meet the Scholar of The First Sin 3 times (we should have done it twice now) and then kill King Vendric AND the original last boss.  This causes the Scholar to appear as the a third final boss.  In order to kill Vendrick we'll need to get some Giant Souls from the other Memories of Ancients so his defenses aren't so stacked.
  • Then we will get to pick to stay on the throne or leave it which gives us different endings.

So that basically means all we have left to do to beat the game is:

  1. Get far enough in Dragon Aerie to talk to the ancient dragon, killing it is optional.
  2. Visit enough Memories to kill the Giant Lord and get at least 5 Giant Souls so Vendrick has 1x defenses.
  3. Kill King Vendrick
  4. Attack the Throne of Want and do all three final boss fights.
  5. "OUR SOULS ARE FREE!"... to play Dark Souls 3.

Now here's the rub:

  • We cannot summon/co-op in Dragon Aerie unless we attack the Ancient Dragon.  Only then can we summon help just for killing it.
  • We cannot summon/co-op in any of the ancient memories.

So basically we're in solo-mode UNTIL we get to the last bosses, at which point we can  co-op them by summoning near the King's Gate bonfire.  Of course Dark Souls 2 also does the same thing Dark Souls 1 does so as soon as one of us beats the game, they will be throne into NG+, leaving the remaining players to beat the game without their help.

So the TL:DR; of this is... uh... about all the co-op we have left to do at this point is the DLC.

With that in mind I propose that from this point on we make getting ready for the final fight solo projects for each of us with the intent to co-op the DLC.  So when next we're on as a group, we'll tackle DLC together.  Alternatively we could just skip the DLC so we can get to Dark Souls 3 sooner.  I kinda feel like I'd like to do the DLC because I didn't do it in Dark Souls 1 and having it was part of the point to getting Scholar of the Fist Sin.  Thoughts?

Word of warning for when you all do Dragon Aerie.  There's a lot of optional sleeping dragons in the area, and that's not actually what I want to warn you about.  What I want to warn you about are all the "We run and we explode!" mumies hiding around that explode equipment damaging gas instead of normal explosions.  3 or four of these and I started suffering massive equipment breakage.   Consider bringing high durability alternative armor and leaving behind your most expensive rings if you don't intend to actually fight the dragons and just want to proceed.

Hey guys.  If we feel like we're loosing steam on Dark Souls 2 I am okay with skipping the DLC and just trying to finish the game this Wednesday.  I can try and finish up the DLC on my own time or skip it and focus more on Bloodborne until we do the Dark Souls 3 switch.

I guess if you want to finish the game on Wednesday that's cool.  I will totally help with whatever I can, but I intend to finish the DLC before beating the game and getting dropped in NG+.  I'm down for playing whatever section people are on for Wednesday.

I've said this in chat but I'll repeat here. At this point, I feel ready to be done. I am also however cool with helping complete any DLC people want cause co-op Dark Souls is still fun. I'm not gonna take on final bosses until people are ready to be done so I'm NG+'s out of the ability to play with folks. I have all the starter bonfires unlocked so I can warp to whatever.

With the decision to hold off on starting Dark Souls 3 until Thanksgiving time I am most certainly in favor of doing as much of the DLC as we can stomach.  Dominion and I have made huge strides in the Ivory King DLC at this point and I've been banging my head against the Sunken King DLC Wall alone long enough that it has some very noticeable cracks in it.

That said I'd hate to be dragging the two of you through the DS2 DLC if you're both ready to check out.  It sounds like Nayth0r still wants to hit this stuff up so I'll continue assuming we're gonna do this DLC.

Credit to DMZ2112 for finding this one.  This video contains a player fooling invaders by pretending to be a random enemy.  Hilarity (and good editing) ensue.
