Blizz Con 2011 news highlights and all that:

Mists of Pandaria details:

  • Level cap 90
  • New Continent - Pandaria
  • New Race: Pandaren (only males seen in trailer).  Pandaren will be BOTH Alliance and Horde.  This will be bad in the end IMO.
  • New Class: Monks
  • Challenge Mode Dungeons (what?)
  • Pet Battle System (Pokemon?)
  • Metzen made a big speech about War between the Alliance and Horde before hand.  Didn't see any sign of it in the trailer.

Chris Metzen Bullshit afterwords:

  • Chris Metzen reveals after the show that at one point the Pandaren WERE going to be the new Alliance race in Burning Crusade.  So much hate at the DOUBLE SPEAK as I remember them saying things like "We'll never do that" back then.  WHAT.

I think that's it.  I'll post links as I get them.

Monk class sounds interesting. I was kinda hoping the Mists of Panderia was a joke. Not that I hate the pandarans, it's just I was hoping they'd do something interesting like, I don't know, do the Emerald Dream which could've been a cool idea since they've talked about it so much in quests. The fact they're coming out with this so soon just kinda makes me want to stab them. Course it seems they announce a new expansion the Blizzcon after the previous expansion release anyways so... yeah.

Oh well, I'm kinda whatever about it since I have no doubt that Guild Wars 2 will be out and have grasped me fairly well before this ever touches stores.

As I've been saying for years, World of Warcraft lore-wise played it's ace too soon when they released Wrath of the Lich King.  Regardless of his "power level"  Arthas was the best villain the game could have.  He had a detailed and relate-able story, one you could get behind, one you wanted to see finished, one that tied most closely to [insert your favorite Warcraft character here].  Everyone has a reason to hate and go after Arthas and his Scourge, plus the Scourge is the only enemy in the Warcraft lore that players could possibly have played before so really be excited about fighting them.

By comparison Deathwing was more powerful, obviously, but he's not as personally invested into WoW's Lore the way Arthas was.   By further comparison Mists of Pandaria looks like an act of desperation, especially with the Free Diablo 3 tied into 12 months of WoW subscription.  I mean I am all for playable Pandarien, and Pandaria looks cool.  I'm less down with Monks in WoW because Monks have NEVER been a part of Warcraft except for the Pandaren hero in War3 but okay whatever.  The need to fall back on this though now with both SWTOR and Guild Wars 2 hot on their heels and no real response ready, this smells of Blizzard knowing WoW's days in the sun are ending and they are just trying to buy what time they can.

I was actually gonna make a comment about that. Arthas had always felt like "the end boss" to WoW. Granted I've played (for the most part) the Warcraft games so the way Frozen Throne ended it just felt like Arthas was the big baddie to the world. As stated, yeah, there are other threats but Arthas was the bad guy. Everything else? Meh.

I think some of my thoughts on Kerrigan still stand. She's has her humanity returned but is still of the mindset of "Queen Bitch of the Universe". As far as I can see this has just changed her stance from "The Zerg will rule all" to "I'M GOING TO FUCKING KILL MENGSK." I would imagine after she's gotten her vengeance she's going to realize that she has no idea of what to do next at which point the protoss expansion will come out and Zeratul will be all like "Oh you're not a hybrid anymore. Uh.... we kinda need you to still help stop the apocalypse."

I think she's still a hybrid, but I think since she got blasted by a Protoss artifact she now has a bit of the 'toss in her too. Triple hybrid.

Also, Kerrigan's a sith? She's force choaking more people than Vader!

Lately the Starcraft expanded universe (Manga, the books, etc) have played up the idea that the typical Terran ghost is only a class 4 Psi user, which is actually on par with a Protoss Zealot.  I believe they said a weak High Templar kicks in around an 8. Kerrigan as-a-human and Nova are both Psi 10 users, and they depict that as them basically having force-level (in some cases ABUSRD levels) of destructive and telepathic power.

My guess is that at this point Post-infested Kerrigan is some sort of never-registered on the Psi Scale thing. Which I cannot wait to see more of.

It seems like both the protoss and the Terran now have their "off-button" to use against mutalisks. :(. Not saying the protoss didn't need a corsair-equivalent; but it's gonna be less of a caek-walk. Still - grab-and-drag air-to-air?! That's an interesting mechanic to say the least :).

PS: Also, who the hell is Arthas? I swear I've heard this name before - though I forget where. And now he's in Blizzard DOTA so I'm guessing he's WoW related?

Prince Arthas Menithil is from Warcraft yes.  He was first introduced in Warcraft 3 where he went from an overambitious paladin and fell into becoming a Death Knight.  By the end of Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne, Arthas merged with Nerzul and became the lord of the Undead Scourge, aka "The Lich King."  His plot was left unresolved until the 2nd expansion of World of Warcraft, titled "The Wraith of the Lich King" where Arthas was finally killed by the player characters with the help of an order of Paladins called the Argent Crusade and the ghost of Arthas' dad.  For several years he was sort of the most iconic villain Warcraft ever had which is why Dominion and I think it was dumb of Blizzard to kill him off so soon in WoW's life cycle.
