I mentioned this two posts ago:

I also wanted to call attention to a pair of changes you might have missed if you haven't been reading the latest that went into the GamesCome demo:

  1. Skills no longer cost Energy.  Energy is now used exclusively for their dodge mechanic, allowing them to remove the potion mechanic from the.  It sounds like it was sturring up quite a controversy and I imagine we may hear more on this in the future if Arena.net is happy with the change.
  2. Skill aquisition has changed.  I'm not sure but I think what used to happen was players earned slotted skills (as in the second half of their skill bar) as rewards or from trainers, and they earned their weapon skills simply by leveling up.  In the new build, they want to make the slotted skills the kind of things you might have to hunt down, a-la the original Guild Wars, and have moved the weapon skills to things you earn by using the weapon.  In other words, the more you use a greatsword, the more greatsword skills you unlock.

But yeah point is I agree with you. Garen/Kat/Mordenkaiser remain some of my favorite champs in LoL because of the lack of secondary energy, as you stated, and furthermore I used to hate playing any Mana class in WoW until they introduced enough ways for them to farm mobs w/o needing to sit and rest and drink between fights.  It is my opinion that a MMO battle should be less about "Do I have enough sustainability to win this" vs "Do I have sufficient skills to win this" because IMO if sustainability is an issue, the most sustainable class is the one I always find the most fun to play - case in point Paladins in WoW post BC.  The ability for Ret and Prot paladins to go fight after fight after fight without needing to eat/drink was what made them so fun, and again the same is proving true in Rift.

I do feel like it slightly diminishes the uniqueness of the Thief since a big part of initiative was it taking over as the cost of skills, though at the same time the idea for initiative was also that thief skills would lack cooldown as well and initiative costs would replace cooldowns in that way.

EDIT: BTW a later comment in the panel mentioned that while you can be in multiple guilds you cannot be representing multiple guilds at once.  In other words let's say I'm in two guilds, which for sake of argument we'll just call <GameKnights> and <Amani Shando>.  I cannot be actively wearing the banner/reading the guild chat of both guilds at once.   It seems there is a very good reason for this as action you do while you are bearing the tag of a given guild is you are earning influence for that guild, so they probably want to stop you from farming up for multiple guilds simultaneously - only one guild should get to benefit from your awesome.

That said I think there are two things that might make this less of an issue.  The first is later in the panel they made it sound like this isn't a "On-Login" decision but a decision that can be made after being logged on, by simply right clicking on your guild chat panel and changing which guild you are actively representing.  Furthermore, if Guild Alliances survive the transfer from Guild Wars 1, Alliances had an "Alliance chat" that all the guilds in the alliance could see, so if both <GK> and <AS> belonged to the same alliance, you'd still be able to communicate with them all via Alliance chat.  They made it sound like they were still making up the details on Alliance chat for Guild Wars 2.

I feel a little silly posting this as who knows if these functions/skills will even be in the game when we finally get the chance to play it, still here's a fun, short video of a Necromancer player during the PAX Prime 2011 Guild Wars 2 demos that gets in a hairy situation, and still lives to tell about it.  It showcases Necro survivability, but also possibly that "what you can do when you have skill" thing they have been talking about with the game.

MORE ASURA WEEK:

  1. An article on Asura Themed Environments.
  2. Guild Wars 2 runs the "Hey Bookah!  Smart Answers to Stupid Questions" blog post.  This makes the Asura sound much more Orky than I thought they were....

And today we get the Asura Week update WITH Sound clips! Contains "Concentrated Magnificence," and a possible overload of arrogant snark.

Also I forgot to link a story they posted earlier this week about an Asura and his golem "Mr. Sparkles"

And today is the update to the Guild Wars 2 race page for the Asura.  New short descript of the race, plus an attached video of Rata Sum (which I'll add to this post when A.net adds it to YouTube).

OH!  Almost forgot, there's also an article and video on animating the Asura that you might enjoy.

So I think G*Star is going on in Korea this week because out of no where we have some Guild Wars 2 videos hitting YouTube.  They haven't been major reveal stuff but they do represent progress on a few fronts.  First they have a video on character customization with all the options turned on.  I feel like this is a glorious compromise to the system in Aion:  still plenty of room to make your character unique while still restricting limits based on race (ie no Humans as tall as Norn or as short as Asura).  Check it out:
