You know, you guys don't have to buy the game if you don't want to.  I'm actually looking forward to learning what's going on and making Diablo pay for it again.

I'm looking forward to playing it with people. It wouldn't be near as much fun without the people to play it with, so that's what I based my purchase decision on! Gaming is a big social thing for me.

I can assure you if I didn't want to buy or play the game I wouldn't. Much is the case with many MMO's that have since come and gone that folks have played.

The main reason I didn't want to buy was the always online nonsense (which I still hate for SC2) and, more importantly, the real money auction house. It's not that I don't want to play the game or that I don't think I'd enjoy it. I played the beta weekend and had fun! It's Diablo, it's gonna be fun to me. Since I greatly enjoy playing with people more then these things that annoy me and I can easily personally boycott the AH by just not using it at all, it's more or less boiled down to "are people gonna be playing this?" I like games I can play with my friends. More importantly, I like fun games that I can play with my friends. Diablo 3 fits the bill for this. Are there things I dislike and disapprove of Blizzard doing with it? Yes, but by and large they will not hamper the fun with friends aspect of the game for me and I can largely ignore them.

Enjoyed the monk I played during beta, might do that. Probably gonna try a demon hunter and barbarian as well and see where we go from there.

Gonna start with a Monk, but will also do Wizard and Demon Hunter at some point for sure.

Annnn done! I've beaten the game on Normal, and am reasonably far through Act I on Nightmare mode. Solo.

This game is like a special variety of crack - it's like somebody split open my head to figure out what the most potent combination for leeching away ALL my spare time would be. . . and they came up with this.

And to them I say "bravo Sir, well done.".

In the interests of staying 100% spoiler free, and given the likelihood that everyone will beat the game here within the next week or so, I'm going to refrain from all my specific comments about the game. Suffice it to say: No wonder people love the Diablo style and lore so much. ALso - the pacing is brilliant! Act I is very mellow and introductory, ratcheting up with cool intrigue in Act II....and then III/IV simply have me glued to my seat CONSTANTLY. If anything, redoing Act I in nightmare is a bit of a downer after the pure exhilerating joy that is Acts III and IV.

Loving my Demon Hunter to death too :).

So I've found something new to enjoy in Diablo 3: Daytrading.

So as of now, market prices still kind of fluctuate wildly. That said, it kind of struck me that sooner rather than later, inflation is gonna be a BIG deal. THere isn't nearly enough ways we drain our money and we get loads of it for playing, couple that with the fact taht the average D3 player is probably just starting nightmare, and that means rates of gold acquisition are gonna go UP before thye go down.

This means: hanging on to gold will probably be less valuable than hanging on to a liquid-investment item. I've chosen the "Flawless Ruby".

Generally, if I hang around and search for it, I'm able to buy these for 10k or less. Sometimes I get a sucker who's selling for as low as 6-7k, but in general 10k is a safe buy. Today the market price kept fluctuating between 10k and 12k. I ground out a 40,000 gold profit in about 45 minutes.

Suffice it to say: this is damn addictive. I'm not certain taht it isn't more efficient to earn money by playing the main campaign with the nephelem buff active and hitting Lvl60/Inferno drops. But regardless, this is fun as hell to do. For any interested in trying their hand at the Diablo 3 auction-house, I strongly recommend using commodity sales (ie: Gems, Crafting materials etc.) as your capital rather than items. Tehre's less to search for and it's driven purely by market forces, so sales come a lot faster.

Yeah I've been trying to explain to my co-worker who has never played an MMO that the way Auction Houses end up working: it is not the actual gear that has value on the AH but the materials needed to make the gear you want.  I think this is going to be especially true with Diablo 3 where equipment has no soul-binding by which to take it out of circulation once someone equips an item, and where there is no clear-cut "best in slot" gear.  At the end of the day the randomness of the game means that a random item might be better than any unique you find, so the quest for better loot never really ends, unlike in WoW where there are temporarily "best in slot" items for every class/build until they release a new patch that moves that bar forward.

So yeah it doesn't surprise me you're having more luck moving gems than actual items.

OH!  Additionally co-worker just told me about a patch that just dropped.  Here's the notes - it seems our tool tips will not display the changes made.  The big deal here is Demon Hunter smoke screen took a real hit from the nerf bat, probably to reduce the effectiveness of Preparation stacking with it.

There is no cow level.

There is, however, a secret level. And it kicks ass :). I've managed to craft the Staff of Herding, and it's possible for me to take a party with me to this place even if I'm the only one with the item. Best of all?  It's unlimited use!  I've unlcoked both the Normal and Nightmare versions and am currently working on the Hell version. It's mostly the price that's inhibitive at this point (500,000g).

So if you're interested, let me know :). Personally, I find raiding it great.

I'm also set to *finally* hit Lvl60 with my main today - so hooray! :). I've also created a very low-level wizard whom I don't mind getting hyperleveled, as it's mostly for the endgame content that I'm interested in her in the first place. Just so y'all know she's there to try and tag along when she finally hits the avg group level.
