So with E3 in full swing I figured we can make up a topic to discuss any stuff that looks interesting!

It appears the game of the show currently is Watch Dogs by Ubisoft. Looks to be an open world sandbox game with a bit of a Deus Ex feel to it. I'll admit part of my interest stems from it being based in Chicago so while watching the gameplay demo I got a lot of "ZOMG I know that area!" moments. Here's a nice lengthy gameplay demo that I think gives a very nice overview.

As I think I've said before, I did not care about Metal Gear Rising, like at all.  Then they brought Platinum games on board and I was more interested.  And stupid subtitle aside, now that we see gameplay, let me say yes.  Yes sign me up for this.

That looks pretty hawt. I'm ready for some REVENGEANCE.

*snicker*

On a side note, I'm amused to see tons of LA Kings signs in the background. I didn't know E3 was right next door to the Staples Center. Gonna be crazy tomorrow since there's a very good chance the Kings are gonna sweep the Devils tomorrow for the Cup.

Have now watched the Watch Dogs thing.  Holy crap that looks good.  Not being as familiar with Chicago I can't get excited about accuracy, but hopefully it does a better job with that then Deus Ex: HR did with Detroit.

I recognized several buildings and the L from it in just that clip. Granted, the buildings were in their overhead kinda white skeleton structure view, but when those cylindrical looking ones appears on screen I was like "Oh shits I know where those are!"

I didn't know Deus Ex: HR was based in Detroit.  Huh.  Maybe should check out some footage, though it sounds like it might be a little lacking.

Wonder if in Watch Dogs they included that crazy Ukranian church.

I know a lot of people are upset about "new Dante" still.  To me though, this shows the gameplay is there.  Color me curious.

I'm upset about the terrible dialogue.  Holy shit, I get that they wanted to make him young, but did they have to make him talk like a high school sophomore?  Also, apparently his name is "Fuck You", not "Dante".

Yeah I agree Dante's dialog is off.  I'm not sure if it's the writing that's off or the acting, but it is off.

In other news, I almost forgot to post this.  X-Com: UFO Defense was one of my favorite Dos Games when I was a kid. An amazing turn based strategy game and one of the coolest games to play off the UFO craze of the 90s IMO. I am very happy to hear that Fraxis is giving it a new lease on life.  I hope the new game is at least as much fun as the old!

The thing that I am going to be most curious to see is if they maintain the difficulty.  See, I loved the original XCOM.... I also never came close to beating it.  It was a very hard game. When you get operatives, they are given names and nationalities, and when they die, they are gone for good.  You can order up new ones, but then they are green, inexperienced.  Lost hardware had to be paid for.  Research had to be paid for.  And failure to protect nations from alien threats would result in them pulling out their funding of XCOM.  It was possible for you to make a series of unfortunate decisions and ruin everything.  You could save all the time, but when I was a kid I found part of the fun that you only saved to pick up a game you left off, not as a back up for failure.  If you failed, Earth perished, time to start over.  As an adult, I hope it's not that hard, but I also hope it isn't a "just put 10 hours into this and you'll win, unlock the REAL difficulty mode!" kind of games either.  I'd love to see it to be possible to lose completely, or at least fail individual battles and have to live with those consequences.
