So when we were visiting Adam and Grace we were talking music and apparently the name Imagine Dragons didn't ring any bells.  They are a neat band who has been getting a lot of airtime on the radio, and as some of you (maybe most of you?) don't listen to the radio that often, I figured I'd throw up some videos.  Radioactive and Demons are 2 that are played on the radio a whole lot.  Rocks is a secret track that really highlights the African feel that percolates through some of their music.  I just like Bleeding Out, so thought I'd stick it on here too.  All these songs are off Night Visions.

Okay I've defininately heard Radioactive before.  Didn't know the name of the song or the band.  I'm amused that the video is basically muppet pokemon turned dark.

Their stuff seems musically interesting.  Good variety of normal instruments and electronica.  I responded stronger to Radioactive and Bleeding Out than the other two, though Demons might win me over if I gave it a few more listens.

Yeah, it took a couple of listens through the cd before we really started to dig it. Interesting musically, and great to sing to while driving. Their singer hits a nice range that both of us can usually sing in with little difficulty, which is nice.

So on my super long drive home today, I heard several songs on the radio from sort of local bands, and figured some of you people outside of Michigan might not have heard them, so I figured I'd post them and you can go from there if you like the sound.

We Came As Romans is an angry band out of Troy.  What they have to be angry about while coming from a nice 'burb, who knows.

Pop Evil is out of Grand Rapids and has a neat sound...................and also looks NOTHING like I thought they would.  Holy cow.  And that second video...........woooo.  Had no idea, people, I swear.

Fun fact: Electric Six (of Gay Bar fame), The Raconteurs (really no surprise with Jack White in it), and Mustard Plug (punky ska!) are all from Michigan.  Go fig.

Within Temptation, a band that I'm pretty sure Dominion introduced me to, has a new album called 'Hydra'.  Several of the songs feature other artists, and in this one in particular they team up with the former lead singer of Nightwish!  EPIC!  Certain versions of the album also includes a cover of Radioactive.

On a completely different note, I finally bought Starbomb, the album colab between Egoraptor and Ninja Sex Party of YouTube - or the GameGrumps album as you might as well think of it.  I think I linked this video before but just in case you missed it, this is the kind of comedy you can expect.  I find the album hilarious, and juvenile, but still a fun time.

So if I had a reddit (which I don't and never should) I'd start a thread in self.music that went "What is a song that's dangerous to drive to?

This would be my submission.  I was going ten over on the way back from grabbing dinner tonight when the thought occurred to me.

I didn't know that was Queens of the Stone Age.  Huh.

As for dangerous to drive to music I have some of my own to add.

  1. Never, NEVER drive to Hellmarch, unless you WANT to be driving 5 to 10 over the speed limit.
  2. Also NEVER drive to "A Nightmare to Remember" by Dream Theater.  It's a song about a car crash.  I don't remember the circumstances but the one and only time I listened to it while someone else was driving, we almost had a car crash.
  3. Finally NEVER drive to music from Gears of War.  The one, and only one, time I have spun out while driving in the snow I was listening to Gears music.  I thought the intense music would keep me focused.  Instead it stressed me out, made me jumpy, and I over reacted to an icy spot on I-69.
