I know you've been looking for some different, possibly little more challenging, competition Ahmad. They just announced Store Championship locations (here's prize support info). I'd see which are within a decent driving distance and head to those. Doing a quick search of Latrobe compared to those areas it looked like there were two within an hour's drive? Might be worth a look see. They said these tournaments will be going on between January and March.

Hah! this is awesome :)!

It totally lists my FLGS (Westmoreland Gaming, Sportscards, and Comics) right there next to the lot of them! Maybe we'll actually get bona-fide prize support in Q1 after all ! :)

Mr. Nice Guys is about 50 minutes away. I actually went there a while ago, once, but it turns out that was MtG legacy/vintage night. Still, they do tournaments apparently so if I was willing to skip netrunner day here locally and go I could probably participate some Sunday. That said, I'm not exactly eager to skip our local netrunner day. At least not until it gets more established.

Thanks so much for the listing, I had no idea this was a thing.

So, I just realized I missed your post on 12/10 about the Stealthy-Kate deck. But yes, it's as you posted and yes it was crossposted to the Netrunner Reddit. Though dude? I'm actually impressed with the potential of the deck you see. . ..

. . . I haven't lost a game with it yet.

That's ~8 games on OCTGN now and 3-6 in real life (3 if you don't count those against a 'softer' opponent). I've had runs of success like that with my Gabriel Santiago deck before but this is different in a very special way.

Before I forget, current iteration of the deck:

Kate "Mac" McCaffrey: Digital Tinker (Core Set)

Event (21)
3x Diesel (Core Set)
3x Sure Gamble (Core Set)
3x Quality Time (Humanity's Shadow)
1x Escher (Creation and Control)
3x Levy AR Lab Access (Creation and Control)
3x Dirty Laundry (Creation and Control)
3x Lucky Find (Double Time)  ••••• •
2x Legwork (Honor and Profit)  ••••

Hardware (11)
1x The Personal Touch (Core Set)
2x Plascrete Carapace (What Lies Ahead)
2x R&D Interface (Future Proof)
3x Prepaid VoicePAD (Second Thoughts)
1x CyberSolutions Mem Chip (Fear and Loathing)
1x Astrolabe (Up and Over)

Resource (4)
1x Same Old Thing (Creation and Control)
3x Ghost Runner (The Spaces Between)

Icebreaker (6)
1x Dagger (Creation and Control)
1x BlacKat (First Contact)  •••
2x Refractor (First Contact)
1x Switchblade (Up and Over)  ••
1x Cerberus "Lady" H1 (All That Remains)

Program (4)
3x Cloak (Creation and Control)
1x Self-modifying Code (Creation and Control)

Yes, it's technically 46 cards. I'm ok with this for now since they all make sense for the deck and 6 are draw cards. Notable shifts:
* Cut Rachel Beckman. She isn't doing enough to justify herself here.
* Cut HQ interfaces in favor of Legwork x2. The recurring PPvP credits and just straight up recurring the whole deck means they tend to come up and be 'free to fire' 2-3 times, which is almost always enough. I've had so much success I'm seriously considering ditching an R&D interface for a makers eye...maybe
* Swapped a BlackKat for Cerebus Lady. First it freed some influence for the legworks. But also it gives a variety to the barrier breakers and for "stupidly big barriers" this can save you a ton of stealth/real creds.
* Ditched the Dino for a personal touch. +1str works really nicely on BlackKat or Switchblade or Ninja (depending who most needs it), and 1 cred is much more palatable than 4.

Cuts that need to happen: 3rd Levy.  Additions: Net Shield.  Thoughts: Swap cybermem for an aka-mem.

I think what's at the heart of what I like so much about this deck is that it lets me really play Netrunner. The way I could back in "the olden days". The game isn't about assembling a massive rig. Or pulling some outlandish or niche combo that nets me an insta-win. Rather it's about bits and breakers. Only now I'm making those credits efficiently-er. And pulling those breakers out swiftly-er. So the only real room to combat me is the mindgames and playing the player across from me. I have plenty of room to provide pressure, but only so many "shots" before I need to refuel with more event income.
In short - the deck is a tool that allows me to play the man across from me and do my math to try and exert my special brand of misdirection, surprise, and aggression on him. Just like I used to be able to do against all-comers with my Gabriel Santiago deck. . . but in a totally different way.

Or maybe I'm just on a lucky-streak and this is just another 'nice deck' among a list of decent creations. Regardless, I'ma ride this high till I crash :P!

Someone went and re-themed Netrunner to give it a victorian era feel to it, complete with changing the key game phrases to go with the theme and new images. I'm actually really impressed with the little they've shown and would love to see a full set of this. They named it Lacerunner.

So I've been playing pretty much exclusively the, as I've dubbed it, AssassinPAD Kate deck lately with the intention of going to a few store championships with it. Only exceptions is playing with a Noise build when playing against newer players that have been showing up lately at the shop during Netrunner nights. I figured I'd share the build with you Bounty. It's still fairly similar but with a few tweaks.

AssassinPAD Kate

Kate "Mac" McCaffrey: Digital Tinker (Core Set)

Event (16)
3x Diesel (Core Set)
3x Dirty Laundry (Creation and Control)
1x Levy AR Lab Access (Creation and Control)
3x Lucky Find (Double Time) ••••• •
3x Quality Time (Humanity's Shadow)
3x Sure Gamble (Core Set)

Hardware (12)
1x Astrolabe (Up and Over)
1x CyberSolutions Mem Chip (Fear and Loathing)
1x Feedback Filter (Creation and Control)
2x Plascrete Carapace (What Lies Ahead)
3x Prepaid VoicePAD (Second Thoughts)
2x R&D Interface (Future Proof)
2x The Personal Touch (Core Set)

Resource (6)
1x Armitage Codebusting (Core Set)
3x Ghost Runner (The Spaces Between)
1x Hades Shard (First Contact) •
1x Same Old Thing (Creation and Control)

Icebreaker (6)
2x BlacKat (First Contact) ••••• •
1x Dagger (Creation and Control)
2x Refractor (First Contact)
1x Switchblade (Up and Over) ••

Program (5)
3x Cloak (Creation and Control)
2x Self-modifying Code (Creation and Control)

15 influence spent (max 15)
45 cards (min 45)
Cards up to Up and Over

Key differences being -1 Escher, -2 Levy, -1 Cerberus, -2 Legwork, +1 BlacKat, +1 Feedback, +1 Personal Touch, +1 Armitage, +1 SMC, and +1 Hades. I don't have All That Remains so don't have access to Cerberus yet though the more I play this the more I feel like it's an excellent piece that's missing and would free up influence for Legwork. Feedback is massively awesome against Jintecki and basically allows you to face check remotes without issue once you build up some money. Hades has been more amazing then I imagined just by being on the table and pressuring inability 99% of the time to use Jackson (there's a very small window where they can still use him). I know when we last chatted about the deck Bounty I mentioned not using SMC. Well last night I lost two games with the deck probably because I lacked SMC. It sucks SMC doesn't really synergize well with Kate's ability but last two games I played I got very little of my card draw going and what I did get going got practically none of the breakers I needed. It sucked cause I had most everything else in place and the money to spare but couldn't get BlacKat out before the corp had gotten their scoring windows open. One of the better players suggested going down to only one Levy and while I'm still a little dubious of it, since once breakers get out and the game goes longer it's nice to have the extra trip through the deck, I'll side with his better judgment on it. Anyways, I just wanted to share and discuss it again since I feel like it's still awesome and fits my play style well and I just got frustrated losing the two games I did due to bad luck of the draw. I'm hoping those SMC's will negate that issue.

Also another side note, fuck Leela Patel. She's super annoying to deal with in the same way anarchs are annoying to deal with, what with her bouncing ice all the time, but with all the aggressiveness of normal criminal shenanigans. GRAH.

I'm just amused that they named the game Lacerunner.

So I've been wanting to make an eater-siphon deck for a while. It is unfortunately very well countered by Crisium Grid. Slowed down by killshot weyland. And hurt by Caprice Nisei.

In other words - not top-tier.

However, good *GOD*. This deck is AMAZING. Haven't actually lost a game yet. Decklist below:

Leela Patel: Trained Pragmatist
Event (29)
2x Déjà Vu •• ••
3x Account Siphon
3x Easy Mark
3x Forged Activation Orders
3x Inside Job
3x Special Order
3x Sure Gamble
3x Emergency Shutdown (Cyber Exodus)
1x Levy AR Lab Access (Creation and Control)  •••
2x Quest Completed (Fear and Loathing)  •• ••
2x Express Delivery (Honor and Profit)
1x Feint (Honor and Profit)

Hardware (6)
2x Plascrete Carapace (What Lies Ahead)
2x Doppelgänger (A Study in Static)
2x Prepaid VoicePAD (Second Thoughts)

Resource (4)
1x Bank Job
3x Same Old Thing (Creation and Control)

Icebreaker (7)
1x Mimic •
1x Faerie (Future Proof)
1x Breach (Honor and Profit)
1x Passport (Honor and Profit)
1x Cerberus "Rex" H2 (All That Remains)
1x Eater (Order and Chaos)  •••

15 influence spent (maximum 15)
45 cards (min 45)

Gameplay:

The beauty of the deck is that it goes very very far out of its way to leverage the retardedly stupidly broken power of Eater and goes back to the central breakers system. Sure Gamble + Eater is not that hard to pull off on turn 1-2. Either the corp plays around siphon by not taking any money past the rez cost of that first 0-5 HQ ice.... or they get siphoned as soon as I find it. 3 Siphons. 3 Same-Old-Things to siphon. 2 Deja Vu to siphon. Levy to do it all over again.

I've played this deck about 10 times now bethween IRL games as well as over OCTGN. . . and siphon has connected at least 3 times a game. Three siphon connects. And that's my minimum. I've actually managed to get all the way up to 8 connections. Back in the day just one siphon connect with Gabe was enough to make me feel victorious. But now the chaining is insane.

OK - moving on. Picking up on the eater-siphon combo is pretty obvious to exploit once you've seen it. But what else can you do to leverage that eater? Doppelganger. My siphon runs being doppelganger runs means that I get to re-run right after making the corp broke. This OFTEN leads to multiple snare-risk-free runs on R&D. Or 2x R&D runs on one click. Or whatever.
Since I'm often rolling in SIphon money, I can afford to facecheck remotes with impunity thanks to eater.
Eater enables bank job remote runs.
Eater enables emergency shutdown. Which, following siphoning, often leaves a perfect Forged Activation target.
If they don't put big ice over HQ, they get siphoned more. If they DO put big ice, it gets inside job'd / feinted / e-shutdown'd.

But the real coup-de-maitre is Quest Completed. See, you've got your Inside Job + Leela Patel.  Both of these tell the corp: Put two pieces of ice, cuz one isn't enough. Two on HQ. Two on the remote. One or two on R&D...this is fairly typical. If they fail to do it, then inside job is great remote-server pressure. So what's the play? Click 1/2: Siphon. They probably have a plan to rez something or keep it from being fully fatal. DOESN'T MATTER! Eater your way in, they either go broke to siphon or go broke stopping you. Probab\ly JUST enough money to pull off that remote-ice rez.  DOPPELGANGER - archives. Click 3: R&D. Doesn't matter if you eater this one or not. If it's too secure, then *inside job* the R&D. Or if it's HQ that's too secure, feint it first. Whatever. Click 4: quest complete.

Result? Your opponent HAS to double-ice HQ. R&D. Remote. AND Archives. Otherwise, they're at risk of getting inside-job "loop'd" the long way.

A few normal breakers just to help provide a little more mental-pressure to the corp that they need to use the 'right' remote ice as well. Leela Patel to help with the bounce-back or removal of that unrezzed ice over HQ to make the follow-up siphon alittle more viable. A couple plascretes to .. ya'know .. not die.

Absolute Kryptonite: Shoot The Moon. Solution: Pray you go off before they do. Their ice composition tends to be a little bigger so that early pre-moon game is siphon-eshutdown heaven.
Closed Accounts: Cheap to include. Cheap to fire. Punishing as heck when it hits.
Crisium Grid: Ughh. 3 to rez is mean for getting the right siphon-number costwise. Cancels the siphon-inprogress. Nasty.

Kryptonite:
Caprice Nisei: Sneakdoor works for this. Especially since your mimic+breach tend to be enough vs. Jinteki to get you into Archives-server. . . and then voila. Instant kill the Caprice. But that's a solution I have no trick whatsoever to help draw into so...yeah. Still a kryptonite

Dedicated Kill-team Weyland: If you get 3 scorches and 9 credits, I have no answer. Reason this is not an absolute counter is because this requires money, and loves their stupidly large ice. Which is stupidly de-rezzable / Inside-Jobbable / Forge-Activation-able. So there is counter-play to be had. Sort of.

SanSan, Eve Campaign: Ughhh. If there is any card that haunts this deck it's these two. NEH drops a card on a remote. I have to check it pre-siphon#1. If it's sansan, i need to find 5 creds the slow way. This deck runs 3 suregamble and 3 easy mark to help with initial burst/re-burst. But it tends to only find one of them super-early. Ugh. Eve-Campaign also does this pretty brutally.

NEH Fast Advance: *grr* Marked Accounts and two credits in hand is all NEH needs to score astro trains. This means they can totally work under the siphon threshold ... or force me to do 4-6credit gain siphons. Wraparound means I need TWO programs (breach and eater) instead of one to guaranteed the siphon hit. It's still viable, however, because goddamn if fast advance doesn't make Leela *squee* for glory.

That's enough writeup for the moment. I think I might need to tweak the deck a little. I need some trick to help with high asset costs is pretty much where I'm at right now.

Just got back from my first store championship -- and out at Nice Guys (so...much stiffer competition than just local). Three of us Latrober's went.

One came third-from-last
One came 5th place in Swiss-rounds
I came 2nd place after Swiss rounds.

In final 'single elimination' rounds, I lost my match (bad luck, honestly) and got 4th place overall. Which is fine, since top-4 places still all get prizes. About 12-14 players total, so very happy with my performance.

Will forego a full detailed analysis of tournament post in favor of just chatting with Dominion about it. But if anyone is curious feel free to ask.

Woot!

If A:NR were a gamebook / choose your own adventure, focused on being a Runner, this is how it would play out. There's a good 10-15 "pages" or so before you get to the non-linear decision making. I don't know that I"m ever going to sit down and do this thing properly, but it seems pretty fun thusfar. But then, I *LOVE* the flavor of the cyberpunk / hacker-vs.-corps that permeates the Netrunner universe so of course I like it.
And it is nifty seeing gameplay mechanics I'm so familiar with fleshed out in a cool fictional way.

For example. I run HQ, and access "Scorched Earth" from hand:

In "Why I Run"'s description:

The system's voice chimes in: You have accessed a datacore labeled Scorched Earth.

The system continues: This is an Operation, which the Corporation can put into action given enough time and money.

Operation Scorched Earth refers to a Black Ops tactic employed by the Weyland Consortium to deal with problem individuals. Once the target has been identified and located (usually by means of an electronic Tag) their position is then carpet bombed into oblivion through whatever means is most easily explained as an accident after the fact. Due to the Weyland's Consortium involvement in military affairs, demolitions business and power generation, every corner of the civilized world can be targeted by Scorched Earth tactics.

In case it isn't obvious, this is a MAJOR threat to your survival, and the number one reason why people don't tend to oppose the Consortium for very long. If you want to stay alive, paranoia is your greatest asset. Do not make Runs when fatigued, always keep some cash on hand and never EVER ignore a tag.

As with all Operations, there is no way for you to interfere or sabotage it, but being warned of its existence can be helpful.

Poetic descriptions like this of things that, for the most part, I now take for granted as a long-time player of the game are part of where I see its potential. So yeah, may check it out again later ;). And no, no knowledge of the game is required to play this at least thusfar.

*EDIT*: Actually, now that I've played it a bit more, it's even more impressive. You know those old adventure games? "You find yourself in a dungeon. Would you like to go north, search for traps, get gold, or ..blah blah?" Well, imagine a game of Netrunner presented in that light. Each of the decisions (draw a card, make a run, install a program, play an event, etc. etc.) each implemented as a text-adventure game decision. I'm *FASCINATED* by this approach and pretty excited to see how this plays out when its done fully. Maybe when it's not 4AM i'll play it for real.
Another quote:

[[Advancing card installed in a remote]]
"
Large amounts of activity was then immediately detected within the remote server as roughly 2 trillion credits and tens of thousands of man-hours were pumped into this new project. This may be indicative of a large future project, or it may be posturing meant to lure out and trap people like you..."

I'd kinda like to see all the ones they plan on making. I wanted to buy a playmat (previous one I got I'm kinda "meh" on) but I've been on the fence on what I'd like on it, one reason I haven't taken advantage of inked playmat's current sale. SMC's art would be slick looking if they made it.
