Okay so thanks to Penny Arcade (and well probably some other sources as well but I'm sure PA has helped contribute quite a bit lately), Minecraft has suddenly become a hot topic of gaming. Like me I'm sure you're wondering what the hell Minecraft is and what it plays like. Well you could head over to the official site and download the free copy, but the free one doesn't have the fun night time baddies that could make the game challenging. Essentially the free one is just a world builder with unlimited building materials.

Anywho! The "Alpha" version is currently the real one. I was wondering how the game played and stumbled across a series of videos where a person has been frapsing his first adventure through Minecraft. He does have some foreknowledge since he watched some videos himself and got some tips but he's never played it so it's interesting to watch him play through since it gives a good overall introduction to the game.

I have yet to play the game but I'm finding it interesting watching and seeing what this game is about! You can find the play list here on Youtube.

I played around with the demo version after VGcats made a big deal about this several months ago. The demo was fun, but since it lacked game saves, it felt kinda pointless, so I still didn't get what the hubub was all about.

These videos (only watched the first so far) show why this could be an absolute blast. Sounds like it's time for me to support another indie developer!

Having only played the demo of Bioshock and seen a few videos, I'm not crazy familiar with Rapture, but apparently some folks have gone and remade it in Minecraft. Quite impressive!

The Rapture is absurdly awesome. If for no other reason than because I have a concept of how hard it is to do underwater construction from when I tried to do it myself. The accuracy of a given room is solid, though the map clearly is no where near as large as actual Rapture.

Still the attention to detail, including the wonderful advertising on the signs and the addition of key Bioshock fixtures like the wrench are great.
