Paper and Galaxies

So this is a post all about Mario, as in Super Mario of Nintendo fame.  Few quick things, first about Super Paper Mario, then about Super Mario Galaxy.

I beat Super Paper Mario last night and I can hapily say that anyone who is a fan of the Paper Mario series who could stand to do with mixing some classic side-scroll up with their RPG action has no reason not to play this game.  The writing is just as good as any Paper Mario game before it,  and the side scroll gameplay is quite fun.  The only problem with it, and this is sadly a glaring problem, is that the game does have some pacing issues.  There are some parts that are frustratingly tedius that seem to be thrown in just to extend the duration of the game and have no real value to them. However, once you get past them the game becomes tons of fun again and very difficult to put down.

Super Mario Galaxy
comes out today and already has recieved rave reviews, even from some of the Wii's tougher critics.  As if the high marks from reviewers weren't enough, Nintendo has even gone so far as to have Mario call you to remember to pick up your pre-order for the game at GameStop. It's no memorial montage like they did for Halo 3, but it's still pretty crazy marketing if you ask me.

Okay that's enough of the plumber for now.

Challenge 34: Luminara
Written by Adam (Vergil)
Monday, 12 November 2007
This time we'll be doing this Geometry Wars inspired shooter game called Luminara.  We'll be playing for points and the level cap is 50.  It should be a welcome quick-game after all the longer time commitment ones we've been doing lately. Use FPS style WASD controls to move, aim the mouse to shoot!  Good luck!

This challenge ends Friday November 23rd at midnight EST.

Is the 360 THE system for Co-op?
Written by Adam (Vergil)

A complaint I believe I've articulated around most of the readers of this site is my frustration at the current gaming generation's lack of co-op games.  It really isn't this generation's problem so much as much as ever since we moved into the realm of 3D.  Oh sure there has been the occasional co-op game, but they are rare and often not as much fun as the co-op titles of the old 8 and 16-bit eras.

I have started to notice a trend this generation though especially on Microsoft's Xbox 360 platform.  I am suprised to see this trend more there than on Nintendo's Wii, but the Wii's multiplayer emphasis has been more on competative mini games than a fully fledged co-op experence.  Hopefully that'll change, but at the moment Nintendo seems content with it.

Here's a list of good (or looking good) co-op games I see available for the 360:

Quick Link page Update

Updated the Links page to include the CSS-for-the-masses page since I have a hard enough time remembering where I put it sometimes.  I lost my train of thought with it and I am presently short on freelance projects, so if there is anything there you'd like to see added, please feel free to let me know.  If not, I'm sure I'll still add something soon.
