The site viewing bug is rearing its head again.  I'm offically adding "reinstall Mambo/upgrade to Joomla" to my ToDo list.

In the mean time, the blasted error may cause double blog posts that I can't delete without getting into the admin section, which is a pain when the site's being alll wonky.  Your patience is appreciated.

I actually first saw this like three months ago but forgot to report on it.  If you've beaten the original Half Life 2, you should watch this really neat machinma called "I'm still Seeing Breen," set to Breaking Benjamin's "So Cold." It's really really well done.

Will this be PS3's Year?

In case you had not heard, the High-Def video format war is over, and Blu-Ray won.  As the plug gets pulled on HD-DVD it is becoming apparent that the PS3 is actually one of the best Blu-Ray players on the market.  See one of the problems with BluRay is it's feature set is not standard - which means that they can add features on new movies as they come out.  While this sounds good, that means you have to update your BluRay player to be able to watch the new movies.  While this can be a struggle for some BluRay players, the PS3 is an internet enabled machine out of the box, making the updates easier to deal with.  Sure there are cheaper BluRay players out there, but not by much.  If you have the choice between a $350 BluRay player or a $400 skimmed down PS3, I personally would take the one that doubles as a gaming machine.

With MGS4, GTA 4, LittleBigPlanet, Haze, and Home all in coming before half-way through the year, this may be the time the PS3 finally gets good games to compliment it's High-Def movies stand point.  And with only Smash Brother Brawl to look forward to the Wii so far this year, Nintendo has a really small response prepared.  Microsoft isn't doing much better with the rate of Red-Ring'd 360's continuing, a dead DVD format on their hands, and Gears of War 2 the only anticipated title on the horizon, not to mention more and more of their exclusives going to windows like Mass Effect.  While I hope I'm wrong, this year could prove painful for Nintendo and deal a mortal wound to the 360.

For those of you who question the relevance of movie format to gaming, I'd like to remind you that the PS2 being a cheap DVD player is what killed Dreamcast in Japan.  Don't get me wrong, I don't think it will kill the 360 here, but it could put it in a painful position that will begin its downward spiral.

Eff Eff Eff Thirteen

Feel free to disregard this as irritated gamer grumbling, but This Top 10 Countdown of the Most Anticipated Games of 2008 angers me.  First of all, Gears of War 2 isn't on the list at all, but the fact that Super Smash Bros Brawl is only number 10 on the list is crap.  What's worse is FF13 is higher on the list than both it AND Starcraft 2.

I understand SC2 not being number 1 on the list - many of GT's viewers don't know/care about quality RTSes (which is a tragedy).  I just don't care about Final Fantasy 13 and I don't get how anyone could.  These kind of games are so so so so so so so so so so so so so ten years ago and I have yet to see anything that leads me to understand why this series hasn't been put to damn bed yet.

Even if I was to concede that the one trailer I've seen makes it look like maybe combat will be more original than it has been lately, to imply a single player, lonely, off-line RPG that will likely copy-and-paste the same spells, monsters, and plot of the last 13+ games, is more exciting than seriously awesome looking multiplayer games?!  What the hell...
