Eff Eff Eff Thirteen - 2008/02/22 15:03 This thread discusses the Content article: Eff Eff Eff Thirteen

Ok, you're not the only one who's slightly disappointed. A quick rundown of my feelings, based on first impressions and not a whole lot of outside research.

Smash Bros. Brawl should be higher. They've got a level builder in there now, more characters, butt-loads of stuff. What more could you want?

Ninja Gaiden 2 and it's fancy graphics? Take it or leave it. There are plenty of hack & slash titles out there. And by the way, the whole "cut off enemies limbs to modify their combat style" has been touted in games as far back as Nightmare Creatures, so it's not like it's new, guys. And I don't think enemies should get up and run after you after having a leg chopped off......

Protoype looks vaguely entertaining, but I wouldn't rate it above Smash Bros. Brawl.

Really? Another Grad Theft Auto? I suppose I've never been that big of a fan, so my reaction is a little lack luster.

Ok, Little Big Planet looks like fun. Wish it was on a system I have a chance in owning.

Starcraft 2 -- the only game on the list that really makes me want to play through the previous storyline, and makes me wish I had the skill too. Still looks gorgeous.

FFXIII = meh. I keep getting bugged to go back and play I-VI, and I think I'll probably do that before I attempt anything after VIII again.

Seems like Fallout 3's big selling point might be the graphics........just sayin'.

Oh, MGS4. Thou art fairer than the dawn, and apparently still not ready to come downstairs so we can play. Big title, big franchise; I'm sure it'll be a big hit. I have to say though, hearing that music once again strikes a sentimental chord in me.

RE5 looks like an updated version of RE4, but if it's not broke, don't fix it. Yahtzee is probably right about the problem with the enemies though, so I'll look forward to hearing something about it in the news upon release (a news story which may or may not have Jack Thompson's name stamped all over it).

It seems like we've hit another wall with the whole "look my game is prettier than yours" problem, and I'd really like to see that change for once. At least a few games looked like they were probably hella fun to play.

Re:Eff Eff Eff Thirteen - 2008/02/24 12:51 Prototype I've never even heard of.

There really is no reason to play a bunch of old Final Fantasy games before a new one. With the exception of FFX and FFX-2, there is no consistency between them, not even the slightest. You should only play the ones that interest you, and of list of I-VI, the only ones that interested me was V and VI (and VI is REALLY GOOD, a ton better than VII).

Fallout was a revolutionary (at the time) series of PC RPGs. They were never really about the graphics as much as great PC role playing and gameplay. I never got the time to play them back in the day but they were highly acclaimed, so hearing that series coming back from the dead is big news, bigger news than FFXIII or RE 5 that's for sure.

But yeah in agreement - this whole list is out of order in some way or another.

Re:Eff Eff Eff Thirteen - 2008/02/24 18:09 Was hinting that I would rather play the older ones (better plot, gameplay style, site what you will 'cause I have no idea) than any of the newer "shiny" ones. Seeing the jump from VII to VIII, I know they don't have any sort of continuum.

And have heard of Fallout, but like you, have never played. If you listen to the description of FO3, you'll catch that they don't tell you a lot about the game, just that the backgrounds will look that good, and something about your father being generated off what your character looks like......it felt like they were relying on the past history of the game to carry the weight, and were just pointing out neat things for this new one. Since I didn't know anything, I was like "umm, I guess the backgrounds are great, but what exactly am I looking at here?"

And the character from Prototype.......with the hood, he reminds me a little of Altair from Assassin's Creed, but maybe that's just me.
